Worship Kids - Band Camp
This past fall, we held our first 'Worship Kids' band camp series. Over the course of 6 weeks, on Thursday evenings, these 5 young people gathered together to learn, perform and record a song together. These young worshippers all attend the Graphite Bible Chapel in Bancroft, Ontario. They had never played music together before, and had an hour and a half each week to have a lesson on using/setting up equipment, musicianship and a time of Bible reading, discussion and prayer, all before diving in to the work and fun of playing music.
The camp was a huge success, and you can check out the finished video on Glory's YouTube channel, here.
The song the band learned is a contemporary Christian worship song called 'Who You Say I Am'. It has been covered by many artists and is used in worship services all over the world. We think they did an awesome job in just 9 hours of ever playing together!
We would like to thank Mikayla Mills for all her help in keeping things organized and productive. Mikayla attened Glory's Band Camp a couple summers ago, which really helped, and her musicianship and ability to teach another student keyboards was invaluable. Landon White was also a huge help. Not only did he perform lead vocals and drums, but he spends enough time in Glory Studios to know where things go, how they're hooked up, etc. Landon is a multi-instrumentalist, and has a bright future in music.
We expect to hold another Worship Kids soon, and would even consider holding another one for different students should we be able to gather enough young musicians to form a band.
These 5 youth had a blast and so did Kevin. As you can see, after all their effort to produce this song, they were done! But they'll be back and hopefully this will be the start of a great young worship band.
We're very happy to present our new website to you. We have a FaceBook page and a YouTube channel as well, but through this site we hope to be able to provide a more detailed look at Glory Studios in Bancroft, Ontario. Please take a look through and check out some of our videos! Drop us a line if you want to come for a visit or tour.
Each year, after the NH Music Festival, Kevin puts on a concert to spotlight his students' talents.
This concert has been known as Guitar Stars. This year however, no concert was possible due to the pandemic, so Kevin decided to do video shoots and audio recordings of each student's performance. Two weeks of video shoots went rather well, and all the students did fantastic!
A special thanks goes out to all the students that participated. This is not easy for even seasoned musicians, to have to record a good video and audio take under bright lights with cameras and people watching. It is different than a concert though, as with a concert the audience 'gets what they get', all mistakes included. However when recording... we all assume.. the next take will be better. ;)
Sometimes not. Sometimes it's the first or second 'take' that had the emotion in it, which really trumps perfectly accurate playing. At least we think so. Performance is a new thing for most of our students, whether in concert or on video, and we've noticed that it can often bring them out of their shell, and maybe this will help in other parts of their lives as well.
